Kitchen 101 – Planning your budget
Before embarking on a kitchen renovation project, planning is the key. Based on our estimates of actual completed kitchens this is a well used industry guideline that you may find helpful.
Refresh – 5-10% of home value or in this case $17,000 - $35,000
This amount of investment for your kitchen will allow you to refresh the space while keeping the existing footprint. This makeover may involve replacing some but not all of the following: cabinetry, countertops, backsplash, hardware, flooring, sink, faucet and appliances.
Renew – 10 – 15% of home value or in this case $35,000 - $50,000
A bigger budget means more changes, starting with tweaks to the layout, increased lighting, quality cabinetry, counter tops, back splash, hardware, and affordable appliances. Depending on how extensive the footprint changes this number could fluctuate.
Re-imagine - 15% to 30% of value or in this case $50,000 - $100,000
This may mean upgrading everything from the floor plan to finishes. It might involve an addition and significant changes in all areas of the former space. This makeover involves new: cabinetry, countertops, windows, flooring, backsplash, hardware and commercial appliances.
